Controller

Job Summary

We are looking for a highly-organized, accountable (pun intended) team player who operates with clarity, urgency, and focus to be our Controller. In this role, you will be responsible for creating a system of checks and balances, including segregation of duties, through establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures in order to support the company’s growth. Additionally, you will be responsible for all accounting and financial processes and reporting, including but not limited to AP/AR, billing, cash management, inventory accounting, cost accounting, month-end close, audits, margin analyses, and special project reporting. You will help prepare financial analyses in order to identify operating/financial issues and recommend actions to maximize opportunities to create value and drive profits.    

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide ongoing financial analysis and modeling to company leaders in support of key business decisions; including audit of financial model, deep-dive on margin improvement and path to profitability; analysis of GAAP accounting and evaluation of EBITDA
    • Update current operating model or establish a new operating model consistent with best industry standards
    • Actualize the internal financial model creating a budget to actuals and a monthly re-forecast based on the most recent trends
  • Deep dive assessment on margin to identify needed adjustments and potential improvements to better align with long-term contribution margin goals
  • Partner with leadership to define optimal budgeting and reforecast strategy and management
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Obtain a detailed understanding of current accounting processes and propose updates to align the financial statements with GAAP
  • Establish and maintain an efficient month-end and year-end close process, inclusive of monthly reports to present to management highlighting key financial trends, KPIs, and other ad-hoc internal reporting requests
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures for accounts payable and corporate credit card expense processes 
  • Enhance the current short-term cash forecasting tool to accurately inform leadership of runway, cost sensitivities, and burn analysis based on historical and forecasted data
  • Manage all financial relationships with vendors, banks, corporate credit cards, and Merchant Processors
  • Other various ad-hoc modeling or analysis as needed by leadership

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • 5+ years of cost accounting experience; experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus 
  • Proficient and well-versed in Quickbooks and Excel
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes 
  • Proven experience working in a startup environment and the ability to scale a growing company.
  • Ability to think strategically and in "big picture" terms but still roll up your sleeves and dive into details.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Must be able to manage time well and be flexible and willing to adjust responsibilities to align with developing business needs.
  • CPA is preferred.
